Both Pres. Truque of the Cali San Fernando Stake and Pte. Gonzalez (Temple Prez.) invited us to join them at this Stake Conference--we were excited to go to Larry's old mission area
Us 3 at the Villa Colombia Stake building
We were invited speakers at this San Fernando Stake meeting (Sunday am)
Jenny, Josh y Gonzalez in downtown Cali
La Hermita in Cali
We were shocked to learn that Catholic "tithing" is one day out of the whole year's income (1/365th) --Monica referenced this in her talk
Us with Monica in front of our hotel (Dann Carlton)
Us with a gal who was 10 years old when me and E. Adams taught (and later baptized) her family (Bedoya, taxista). When we first ran into her in the Temple, "Sis. Bedoya" was in the chapel and Larry came in to officiate at the endowment session and she burst into tears. Larry asked the Follower to see if Sis. Bedoya was ok before we went upstairs and she just ran out of the chapel. Later, the Asst. Matron told me that Sister Bedoya recognized me as her missionary from 40 years ago!
Us with Pte y Hna Gonzalez, and Pte y Hna Truque (Cali SF Stk Pres.). They fed us "a snack" afterwards that consisted of 3 empanadas each, Champus drink, fresh fruit plate for each person, guacamole, skewers of meat for each person and more! Unbelievable hospitality!
Us, with Pres. Truque and his 1st Counselor and son. We arrived late to this meeting after getting lost 3 times (thank you Waze)! As we walked in, the Stake President was introducing us, as we went to the stand. They gave us each a bottle of water and after the meeting, many people came up to shake our hands and take pictures--we felt like celebrities!
Me, Jenny at San Fernando chapel (many Zone and District mtgs here; also Elder Wells, Cook, & Gordon B. Hinckley)
Me, Josh at the location of (or near?) the old mission office
Limonar chapel--I was there on the first Sunday that we opened it to the Saints and helped unwrap the baby grand piano (that was later stolen)
We drove up to Cristo Rey in the mountains above Cali. We had to ask for help as to whether it was safe to go up because the ELN guerillas had threatened attacks that weekend.
I'm so glad you could spend time in Cali and see some of the sights, and more importantly, see so many special people! It's scary that the ELN guerillas had threatened attacks that weekend. I'm glad you were all safe. The Cristo Rey looks incredible!
